This week, we are reading some fun Thanksgiving books to the classes that visit the library.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Tis’ the season to be reading! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! The fair will be open Sunday, December 7th through Thursday, December 11th.
The book fair hours for this year are Sunday from 9:30-1:30, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30-4:00 and Tuesday from 8:30-3:00. We will NOT be open on Friday.
There will be a large selection of books to buy. Students will be able to shop during their library classes during the week and we will be open after school. We will also be open before and after some of the masses on Sunday.
By supporting the book fair, you will be helping us to purchase more great books for our school library. Books make wonderful gifts for children of all ages. Let us help you find the perfect gift!
This week, K-2 will celebrate illustrator Jon Klassen’s birthday! Jon won the 2012 Caldecott Medal AND the Caldecott Honor for his books, “This Is Not My Hat” and “Extra Yarn.” We will definitely enjoy looking at his books more closely.
31 students in grades 3-5 came to the library to discuss “Night of the Twisters” by Amy Ruckman. They felt it was a book with good descriptions and it was sad at times. One of the students said that she liked the book because it was based on true events and that it made her want to learn more about the twisters.
There will be NO book club in December due to the shortened month. Information regarding the January book club selection will come out sometime next month.
Continuing our year-long study of art in picture books, we will be look at design elements found in picture books. We will talk about shapes, lines, colors, texture, and space and how illustrators use them to make stories come alive. We will be looking at a variety of picture books in grades K-2, and in grades 3-5, we will discuss the book, “Chuck Close: Face Book.”
“Bookamania, the Chicago Public Library’s daylong, free celebration of books, reading and discovery, draws thousands of children ages 3 to 10 and their families to the Harold Washington Library Center each fall.”
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, November 22nd. Visit the link for more information: http://bit.ly/13Jh43p
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! The fair will be open Sunday, December 7th through Thursday, December 11th. We need parent volunteers during the weekdays when students visit the fair with their classes and after school when they come with their parents.
Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would be willing to help us out. Thank you in advance for sharing your time to make this another successful fair!
